[NEWS] Plateau state set to reopen schools at the end of October-Governor Lalong speaks.

 The Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong has announced that students in the state are expected to resume academic activities at the end of October if everything goes according to plan.

The governor on Friday, September 18, said all schools in the state will likely resume at the end of October.

"The success we recorded at these levels shall determine the reopening of tertiary institutions, all in a bid to guarantee the safety of our children and avoid resurgence," he said. "We hope that if all goes well, our schools should all re-open by the end of October." Lalong disclosed that teachers and principals are already been trained on how to implement COVID-19 safety measures in schools. 

He said the state government has so far spent over N366.5 million to fight against COVID-19. 

In other news, the Delta State government has announced that tertiary institutions in the state are free to resume academic activities. The state government said institutions in the state are free to reopen between now and October 2, depending on the school’s arrangements to ensure the safety of their students, Premium Times reported. 

The announcement was made by Patrick Muoboghare, the commissioner for higher education on Thursday, September 17, in Asaba. Similarly, the Oyo state government has directed the reopening of all tertiary institutions in the state for regular academic activities from Monday, September 28. Governor Seyi Makinde gave the directive on Tuesday, September 15, in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, with the order coming despite the presence of the coronavirus pandemic in the country Conveying Makinde's directive, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, commissioner for education, science, and technology, announced that necessary Covid-19 guidelines must be put in place for safe reopening.
